Week 6 Question

Hi!

I've enjoyed reading the entries posted so far from week 5. Keep them coming!

This week's question is a continuation of the topic presented in week 5 with one slight modification: this week, instead of discussing your hometown, you will discuss your country.

To be exact, tell us about what makes your country different from every other country in the world. Is it the way the people are, the scenery, the food, the music, the history, etc.

If I were asked this question, I would say that what makes the United States different from every other country is the diversity of world cultures found here (when I say "here," I mean the country as a whole, not just Missoula!). I truly believe the U.S. is the only country in the world in which all the world's countries are represented in some way. If you go to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or San Francisco, choose a country, and you will find a neighborhood or area where people from that place have restaurants, markets, and shops. You want to practice your Swahili (East African language)? No problem. There are Swahili speakers all over the country. Even in my hometown (Lincoln, NE), when I need Thai ingredients, I go to the Thai market; when I need Korean ingredients, I go to the Korean market, and so on. Though some Americans may not welcome such cultural diversity, I encourage it and embrace it.

  1. Hi!!!!
France is a a really small contry compare to the United States but our landscapes are also diversified. On the West coast we have the sea, on the East part we have mountains like the Alpes and the Jura where we can ski during the winter, and in the middle we have some plains like the "Bosse". Moreover, France is reputed for its culinary speciality; each region has at least one speciality. For example, in Britany, crepes and caramel are the specialities, in Auvergne it is the Aligot (melted tomme cheese blended into mash potatoes with sometimes garlic)... Our history is so complicate that if I begin I have for many and many pages! And finally, french is the only language in France and it is sometimes difficult to find some people who speak spanish, german....

  3. Hi! As i said the last week about Burkina, our hospitality is unbelievable! Everybody can feel at home in my country; we are also upright people. For example, its in Burkina that take place every year the African Festival of movies and the International Festival of Burkina's artisanat, which attract people of everywhere just for one week! And this year, the KORA Music awards will take place in Burkina...Secondly, my country is unique because of the peace that we still have! we didn't no civil war and so on; that is, no biiig deal as many other African countries or other countries. This fact is the result of what make my country very unique: the "joking relationship"! we have many ethnies; every ethnie is link with another one by joking relationship because of the history of Burkina! so every ethnies which are linked can't have conflicts or fights! they are just kidding; they can insult each other but its nothing! And in the case that there is a fight between two persons and after they learn that they are linked because of their ethnies, they forgive each other and the fight is end. That really helps us to keep peace in Burkina! It's very fun; I hope that you'll enjoy it one day!hi!

  4. Korea is really small country in the world. My country is exactly smaller than Montana, but I am not shame because my proud country has abilities of many different types. First of all, Korea is one of the strongest countries about sports in the world. In this winter Olympic, Korea occupied fifth position. Besides, my country advanced to quarter final at world cup 2002. Second, electronic technology is famous around the world. Maybe, 46% people’s cell-phones are made by Korean company. In addition, people who want to buy TV prefer to get Korean companies’ TV. Finally, I want to say about county history. Probably, Korean history is one of the longest one in the world. It is almost half million years.

  5. hi. I would like to talk about Japan, but our class has three Japanese, moreover Korea is similar to Japan. For example, it is a car product; TOYOTA, MITSUBISHI, and MATSUDA Another, electronic production is famous too in the world. Now that, I want to tell Japan is rounded a sea; pacific ocean, a sea of between Korea, Russia, and China. moreover many souses of food are imported; beefs, crops, vegetables, and fruits. However, we get many vary fish from sea; additionally, depend on seasons and places, we can see many variety type of fish at super markets. Therefore, we know many kind of way to cook for fish. We have eaten almost fish living in water in the history because Japan is small country and has a lot of mountains that nobody could not a make big firm. Anyway I can not say one word what is the best though, at least the food of used fish is not only SUSHI. I recommend you "FUNA-ZUSHI". It will be to make you catastrophe.

  7. Hi everybody..

you know what guys I'm actually distrait cuz there are alot of things. anyways, I'm gonna talk about two or three specialties. I think or I believe the most important thing that makes KSA different that it has (the kaaba) which is the most important thing in the world for Muslims to visit. In every year, there are approximately two millions visitor from other countries. That was about kinda religious reason. another thing is about its flag. It never goes down. For example, in other countries if someone in the government or the royal family dies, they take the flag down to show the sadness, but the Saudi flag never goes down cuz it has the god's name and the god is more important that people we believe. About cultures, we have different cultures but not too many. this is what I could think about. No no wait I've got something. the main plate for lunch is the rice. Saudi people are popular with the rice cooking..

I am from The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. My country has special things that make it has a special importance:
1- It is the capital of Islam. It has the two most important mosques in the world; (1) the holly mosque in makkah which is the god’s house and when any Muslim in the world pray they will pray toward Kaba which is in the centre of this mosque. And any Muslim should visit this mosque at least one time in his life if he/she can which we call it Haaj. (2) the holly mosque of Maddinah which is our mohammed prophet mosque which has his house and his grave.
2- My country has a very economical importance because it has the largest oil reserves in the world.
3- It has a rich history as being the land of all Arab tribes and because Islam emerged from Saudi Arabia.

  9. Hello everybody,

This is Farzona and as you all know im originally from Tajikistan. Tajikistan is a very small country in Central Asia. Tajikistan borders by Afganistan (south), Kirgizistan(north), Uzbekistan (west) and Chine (east). 93% of the country is mountains.
"The Tajiks, whose language is nearly identical with Persian, were part of the ancient Persian Empire that was ruled by Darius I and later conquered by Alexander the Great (333 B.C. ). In the 7th and 8th centuries, Arabs conquered the region and brought Islam. The Tajiks were successively ruled by Uzbeks and then Afghans until claimed by Russia in the 1860s. In 1924, Tajikistan was consolidated into a newly formed Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, which was administratively part of the Uzbek SSR until the Tajik ASSR gained full-fledged republic status in 1929." (internet)
The religion of this country mainly is Islam, 98% of the people are muslims and only 2% are Jews, Christians and s.o. I think that the thing which makes Tajikistan unique are:
1.mountains especially in the East of the country-Pamir mountains which is covered with virgin snow and known as the "Roof of the World", by far exceed those of the Alps and higher than 7000 meters.
    2. Tajikistan is rich with the watter. The watter comes from the rivers ( from the mountains ice melts and goes to the river).

    I hope it was interesting!
