Week 7 Question

Hello! I'm still waiting for some responses to the week 6 question. Keep them coming.....

I have to admit, this week's question may be the most difficult we've had yet--you will really have to think before answering. Even before giving you my example response, I will have to think about it.

On to the question: What is one thing you think you can contribute (give for a common purpose) to your country when you go back? That is, in what way do you believe your experience, knowledge, skills, etc. will benefit your country in the future?

As I said before, this question isn't an easy one, but I digress. Before answering, I must say that my response is all "modesty aside." I think that in some ways, I am a "cultural liaison" here in the U.S. In other words, I provide a link between people from other countries (who come here for various reasons) and Americans. This link is various in its functions and incarnations: I (try to) help international students better function in the U.S. by encouraging the development of their language skills; by helping these students to develop their language skills, I indirectly assist them in more confidently/appropriately/accurately interacting with Americans in various situations. If they are better able to express themselves in whatever situation they may confront, then my contribution as "cultural liaison" has served its purpose in that both the students and the Americans they interact with benefit. That said, I realize there are numerous ways I could improve the ways in which I attempt to make my contribution, but perhaps we'll save that topic for another week.

English has been the second language in KSA so almost everybody needs to learn it to communicate with the foreigners who absolutely speaks English.
About my degree, I'm majoring in a hard major and the employers who work in this major in my country are almost not saudi. so I'm trying to help my country with all I can do and not let it need other foreign people. I hope this answers your question and in case I get new info, I may add it.

  6. Hi everyone~~ B4 I came here I thought that I will be able to get a job easily because i will speak english better than now. However, it was overcome by chagrin when I finished to read you guys' response of this question. knowing how to speak English is useful to help foreign people who are in bad situation in Korea. Futhermore,I want to introduce our literature to the world because it is closely related to my major. The reason of why I want to do this is that Korean literature is the greatest unknown art in the worls. Besides, it is the best contribution as well as I can.

  8. Hi! After my english semester, i'd like to study law; a kind of law which talk about différent kind of law, depending on some countries or continents! This kind of law isn't common in my Country. Therefore, with this degree ch'Allah and my english skills, i'll be a good lawyer or judge for Burkina because i'll be able to deal with Both European and American law, which can be both useful in some cases. I'll maybe contribute to change some laws for a better Life and a better way to solve juridical problems in my country. Also, with my life's experience here, i can contribute in the amelioration of people's Life in Burkina through some areas like trade, agriculture...but the main point here is to encourage people to the 'do-it- yourself' and the good use of imagination as in America.

  10. Hi,
when I go back Japan which is about four years later, I will contribute for my job by my speaking skill of English. English is our second language, and also English skills are very important and common to get job in Japan. We have to get English test when we apply to take company's test, and we have to get high score at that test. Now, the base of score is really getting high. Many Japanese good at reading and grammer, but most Japanese can't speak English very well and fluently except people who experienced study abroad at least a year. It's really hard to get good job in Japan, so we need more skills than other people. So in my case, it's speaking skill. I will be in the U.S for about four years, so I have to improve my speaking skill. Then I want to contribute for the job by my speaking skill!!

  11. HI. I need to react this question. the reason that i came here for studying English was just for interesting, curiously. also my major is not related with English, it is environmental chemistry. In fact, I need a reading skill for read paper. it is no much and no hard. That was all. however, now i get think about Japanese host family in the future. my mind have been influenced by experience of coming here and many kind Missourian and American. I am really appreciate for all of people involved in my study abroad; grand mother pay the fee for me, my teacher suggest me a study abroad during graduate student, and parents always support. Actually, I am just a Japanese student now. However I would like to return all of thing given from people to the society in the future. in that, i think the host family is one of the method to make use of experience.

  12. Hi, it depend on country, what kind of skill do they need. our country's situation is different from most countries which are in a high technology, so we still need to open that door, that we can start new things. we have political problems that stopped our developing. There is around 40 million Kurdish people live in the world, witch is the biggest nation in the world without state(country),even in some places they cannot study or speak by their language, besides, most people in the world don’t know this nation live in this situation. so right now the most important thing for our country is to be more known in the world’s in this case most of people who want human should live peacefully and equally have understanding English. English is the key for our door to the freedom.
