Hi!
I think snowboarding, snow-watching, exercising, and reading a good book are all great things to do during these cold winter days. But fear not: spring is peeking through the clouds and will soon be upon us!
For this week's question, I'd like to go back to the topic of being an international student here in the U.S. All of you have now been here in Missoula for at least a few weeks. Some of you have been here for months or even years!
Imagine that one of your friends (from your home country) wants to come to Missoula. Given your position of being someone who is familiar with the city, the culture, etc., you want to give your friend/relative important information to help them quickly adjust to life in Missoula.
What advice would you give your friend/family member? Be specific in your answer and explain why you think this advice would be useful.

Hi...
ReplyDeleteactually my brother might come this summer.
First of all, I'd like to let him know that people are not as same as we see in TVs.. I mean people here in Missoula are nice and respectful. They welcome the international students. I'd tell him to be relaxed to not be afraid from gangsters cuz there are no gangs here in Missoula. ٍSecond, I'd let him know about the cold weather cuz it's way different than home.
Hi!!!
ReplyDeleteI am here for nearly a month now and I have learn a lot from Missoula. First you should take clothes for winter but also for summer, because when the sun appears, the temperature grows a lot...Anyway, if you don't have summer clothes, because you thought that Missoula is always cold, you can buy some in South mall. Moreover, in the state of the Montana there are no taxes, so it's cheaper and finally not a wrong idear to buy them here. Then, driving it is not like in France, american people have a lot of respect for pedestrian. Thus you need to be careful of this, and also to school bus, specially when children go down. Here it's frowned to don't let the prioroty to pedestrian or to double a school bus. And finally, you have to talk because American people like talking and if you don't talk with them, you can hurt themselves. Furthermore, Ameriacan people are more open-minded and kind than in France so it's easier!!!
Voila c'est tout!!! (that's it)
Hello everyone!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good question! Actualy i was thinking about to bring my little sister. I think that Missoula is not a bad place. It's a nice place for the students, very small and comfortable city.If my sister or my friend would come, I would be excited to see them. And i would show them the city, Mall, GYM, UC everywhere, we would definitely have fun! Especialy i like spring in Missoula, everyone should see it! I'd help her with English, I would explain to her people in here, food,so she could adjust to it. And then we could go to Seattle, which is very close to Missoula. It's a very nice place too. I'd show her everything and i won't let her to be bored! For me it's a great idea to bring someone, especialy my closest people! :)I would give them a good advice! :)
Hey,this is Reina. This week's question is kind of hard to answer because when I came here,I was shocked here. I imagined about U.S there are many high buildings and there are many people on the streets, but it was not ture. Missoula, there isn't many high buildings and many people. Therefore, when I came here, I was really homesick. In contrast,I spent over one year in Missoula, I knew good things. One,there are many international students, so you can get friends from different countries. Two, there are many nature and fresh air.Three, there are many friendly people in here.Four, Missoula is very safe place because I have never had dangerous situation in here. If my friends want to study in U.S, I'll recommend for them!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm living in missoula since about 8 months ago. I was really surprised when I first came here because missoula is really different with my home city, but I like missoula! If my friends want to come to here, I'm going to give 3 advices. First, Missoula is not crowded. Missoula doesn't have many high bildings, but missoula has really beautiful view! There are many mountains, revers, air...missoula has really great natures. So you will not get tired from many people. Second, Missoula is not city, so it means good for focus on your study! If you tired of study, you can go to snowboarding in winter, and you can go to the river in summer! Lastly, there are many kind people in missoula! I was surprised because every driver stop when I want to across the road. Those things will never happen in Japan. Also people say hi to you or smile at you sometimes even they don't know you. It will never happen in Japan, too...Because of those reasons, I will really recommend to study in missoula to my friends if they really wanna study English :)
hi guys,
ReplyDeletei would tell my friend who wants to come that missoula is a nice place to live, and people are so nice. people like to know about other cultures. therefore, they would like to meet international people.
hi
ReplyDeletesorry this is hussain
hi!
ReplyDeleteI'LL tell to my friend or relative that firstly he does a good choice because Missoula is very beautiful! secondly, i'l talk him about the weather: its sure that he'll have summer clothes but he have to bring also winter clothes because its very very cold in missoula at this period..! so its important for him to have warm clothes! but i'll tell him that its better to buy one or two in my country and buy others in Missoula because there are different clothes for winter; its depend on the cold degree. Moreover, i'll tell him that if he likes big city, big buildings and so on...its better for him to go in New york; but if he wants small pretty city and if he really wants good studies, Missoula is the best place! that's all!hi...
First of all, I will recommend to her to bring her every clothes not only for winter but also for summer because there are no stores to buy some cute and beautiful clothes. I'm so sad! There are no big department stores. Secondly, I will tell her that she has to bring some Korean food because many students who came here to study have problem with food. Moreover, Here in missoula there are no stores which sell Korean food like a Gochoujang, Deonjang and Kimchi. During the last 1 month, to me, those are of the hardest things, so these are my tip for my friend who will come here.
ReplyDeleteHello everybody,
ReplyDeleteMy first advice is :
Don’t be shocked that Missoula doesn’t reflect the image that we have about America through TV. In short, Missoula is really very small very simple city. I want to tell her/him that because I really had a hard time adjusting since I am from a big city and since I have other image of U.S. in my head. Each state here and each city have its own personality don’t be confused.
My second advice is :
Bring very heavy clothes with you and gloves because the weather here is very cold and snowy. The weather here is also not constant it is changing all the time.
My third advice is:
It is better if you come in the spring or the summer, because everybody here tell me that Missoula is very beautiful during these two seasons.
My fourth advice is :
People here in Missoula are very nice and helpful and welcoming everybody, so don’t be shy or afraid.
My fifth advice is:
It is great opportunity to be here for meeting new people and knowing interesting culture and what is important studying English ,so take the maximum benefit of that don’t under appreciate this opportunity . Shortly, work very hard.
My last advice is:
This advice is for my coming friend and for all Saudis in America. Saudi Arabia is great country and have very great people and very great manners and traditions please reflect that. Don’t make others take the wrong idea about a lot of great people in K.S.A..
Hi. So I say that if I introduce to my friends about missoula, I will recomend to do many activities. one of it is Fishing, missoula has a lot of good points for fishing, we can cache vary kind og fish, also they are very active as not tame. Second, the griz foot ball game is very exciting. I had never watched it before come here at real. Everybody become feve when the game is good. Finally, we can know about the life of american student, moreovere if you live on campas, you would have a roommate. it is not easy to live with other people, but it is the chance to know a diffrent culture and ourselves. in addition, these experience will be yuor knowlege and expand your ideas or your sence of value. Last part is not only missoula, however Missoula is a very kind city for japanese wanted study english in U.S.
ReplyDeleteMissoula is different from several reason.First the weather is cold and worm, so it only has to seasons, winter and summer.Scond, the food it totally different the way they how to cook and usally they don't bring bread with meal. besides, I'll show them how to use the public staff, for example bus, traffics and going to the movie, usually it's hard to live at the dorms for our people, because they don't have kitchen or enough space. however the most important thing is that they should know the people in Missoula are very friendly and they can ask them any what they need in anytime.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteMy brother has been thinking about coming to Missoula for a long time now. He wants to visit me because he has a long break. I would advise him to be prepared for the weather. The low temperatures are different from home. Missoula is an out door activity city. I think he will love it here because he can go hiking, fishing, skiing and white water rafting. I would warn my brother to not expect a lot of shopping malls or busy city life; furthermore, Missoula is small and very quiet. I think I would love to live in Missoula when I am older. But for young people I think Missoula is too quiet. I would recommend for my brother all the things i am afraid to try here, like climbing up to M on campus. Finally I recommend for him to get a driving license because you can't go anywhere without a car.
