Well folks, this is it. The final blog entry.
Most of you have done a great job of responding to your weekly questions, and I've really enjoyed reading your responses.
For our final entry, I'd like you to discuss the class. (Despite the fact that grammar may not be your favorite subject!!), what do you think you can take away from our 15 weeks together? You might discuss something that has to with writing, or you could maybe talk about something having to do grammar. Maybe you feel that you are taking away something completely unrelated to both writing and grammar. If you don't think you can take away anything from the class, what do you wish you could have improved? Be honest, as this is simply a truthful reflection on our time together during the Winter-Spring semester of 2010.
Thanks for writing!
Josh

Hi Josh...
ReplyDeleteI don't really understand the question but I'm gonna write what I think the answer is!!!
I've learned alot from the class and I' don't wanna take away anything. what I really wanted to improve honestly was my reading and this is not related to your class :). In your class, I wanted to improve my grammar skills cuz when I get the grammar I'll probably be a good writer. I'm not saying I didn't have to write in the class,of course I needed to. I know our essays were important to write but I think they were a little more, I think. Well this is what I have :) :).
Thanks for everything Josh and I really wish you gave us more grammar stuff...thanks again.
I rally enjoted taking ur grammar and writing class, but I had, sometimes, a misunderstanding because of the difference between korean and english grammar. However, I got a lot of information from this class; that is, I learned how to write essay academically and how to use grammar in my own sentence properly. Even if I have been improving my grammar knowledge, I still need to take a grammar class due to the fact that I have to know and I want to know for getting better than now. Anyway, I think I had great time with awesome teacher and classmates.
ReplyDeletethaks so much and I hope so YOU GUYS will great.
hi Josh,
ReplyDeleteI think that I take away more skills in grammar English; everything we did was useful! i learned more about different clauses and sentences problems! In French, some things are correct in a sentence and in English not, so i can't say that i didn't improve my grammar! What i really appreciated was the essays; sometimes i was mad at you because of some subjects or because of my laziness, but those essays helped me write more correct essays and learn how to write different types of essays--which is SO useful for the University! In other words, in this class i was more interested than bored! Thank you, and thanks ELI too! I enjoyed everything here.

ReplyDeleteHi Josh
ReplyDeleteAs we know, we are pretty close to the end of this semester, and when I think about my improving English in general during this semester, it didn’t improved as much as last semester when I was at the level 4.however, I could say it wasn’t my fault at the other classes, because I couldn’t understand the exact main points usually, but at your class, my English skill is improved a lot, especially writing skill, even though my scour is low, because I didn’t pay attention to get a good grade, I want English for using, like communicate and writing, not for teaching. There was nothing that is repeated for me, everything is new, grammar, how to write or vocabulary. If I compare your class to others, your was the hardest one, but thanks a lot for that nice explanation, you always tried to be sure that all of us got it or not. We shouldn’t forget that when you always said to us, “students please study”. I’m proud of you.

Hello Josh!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your classes and i don't regret that i took this class.I learned a lot from this class, like grammar stuff, i still might have some mistakes in my writing section but i would say that i improved alot, and i kind of feel it; especially punctuations in the writing; also, my essays are better than before :) Also, i like the way that you explaining grammar, it is really clear and i can easily understand you. I want to say that Thanks, Thank you for this class! I really enjoyed your classes! :D
Hi!!!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I hate grammar, but don't worry grammar in general, which means also french grammar!!! The only difference is that I can use my intuition for the french one, but not really for the english grammar! However, I really enjoy your class (stay honest) due to the fact that you are really clear; in other words, if we don't understand something, you try to explain the same thing in an other way. I particularly learned a lot about how to write properly an essay, which is really useful! Now, I realize that before my essays were just a big mess of ideas! If I had known this before, I wouldn't have had 10/20 at my final english test in high school!!! My goal now is to not forget all what I have learned....
To conclude, I really enjoy the grammar class ,and I think we should have some professors like you in France (which is unfortunately not the case).
Merci beaucoup!!!
Hi.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed more than last semester. In addition, I think this semester made me more improved my English skills. And, this semester, we did a lots of writing essays. That is also helped me about my writing skills.I really appreciate for that your teaching.
Thank you, Josh.
Hi josh.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I would like to say thanks for your kindness and passion for teaching English. Actually, I am not good student as much as last semester. It would be lost my purpose, as this semester is the final it for me to stay here. However, you had always taken care about us equally and teach dedicated. In the lecture, any information was fresh not only writing practice also grammar. Even though it would be had knowledge, you tried to teach us until they really understand.
Also, this is another issue for you and same classmate. Everybody were level 5 students, but the gap of their English skill was not small between the best and the worst. I seem sometime students had felt annoy or bored, as the course of my behavior. I want to sorry at this space and really thank everyone.
Finally, I am leaving here after this semester yet I really hope you to be successful with the time spending together in my mind. I would never forget being here. ELI will have been necessary for foreign student. I will be able to completely recommend to my boss.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I was late to write a coment.
I'm glad to meet you and this classmate. I came here just 2 monthes ago. First, I was nervous because I joined this class in the middle of the semester, but everyone were very kind to me!! Studying was so hard for me, but I could learn many rhings. I didn't know grammar that we learned, and I couldn't write a long essay.
Thanks Josh, and everyone!!!!!!!!!
Hi everybody,
ReplyDeleteI can’t believe it. Days went by very fast.
It was interesting journey in my life that I will never forget. I want to thank you teacher Josh and all my classmates of being part of it.
What I can take away with me from your class?
I really took a lot. My writing improved to a very good level. Also my grammar has improved.
I took a lot from my classmates because they are from different countries. The whole world was in the class, so I learned a really new interesting thing about other cultures.
I took from you how people can be open minded about different cultures and how to respect all. You treated everybody the same and also your devotion in teaching. You are a really good teacher.
In conclusion, I really learned a lot from everybody in the class. THANKS ALL. And I really hope the best for everybody.
What I think that I could have improved?
I think grammar and writing must not be in the same class. If the class was only writing or only grammar I am sure that I benefit much more.
THANKS.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I really enjoyed this grammer and writing class because of good teacher and classmates. Thank you very much. As many classmates said, I don't want to take away any grammer and writing skills that I learned because those skills are really useful and important for me if I enter the university; however, I couldn't understand some grammer and writing skills very well, also I think I should have more payed attention in class. Anyway I really appriciate Josh and my classmates. thank you again.
